What are the requirements for SPHE within Transition Year?

The updated Programme Statement for Transition Year (2024) states that SPHE should be timetabled for one class per week. In planning for SPHE within TY, schools can design a programme to meet their students’ needs. This must include teaching and learning in Relationships and Sexuality.

Is there a set curriculum for SPHE within Transition Year?

Transition Year (TY), unlike other programmes, is a school-developed and flexible programme. Therefore, the NCCA does not develop specifications for TY. However, schools can access a range of supports and guidance to assist them in planning SPHE modules as part of their Transition Year programme below.
