Classical Studies

Classical Studies at junior cycle focuses on the study of the life and culture of Ancient Greece and Rome and of their continuing influence on the world today. This syllabus is for first, second and third year students in post-primary education.

It is assessed by examination at the end of third year at Higher and Ordinary levels.

Note: The current syllabus for Junior Certificate Classical Studies was first examined in 1983. A revised specification that combines the current junior cycle subjects of Latin, Ancient Greek and Classical Studies into a single subject called Classics will be taken by first year students from September 2019.
